A post and information overload
In our house is a book case and inside the book case is the orange paperback that was a bestseller and probably it still is. The book is called Future Shock and it was written by Alvin Toffler. Within its pages you will find the first use of the phrase information overload.
And apparently the phrase refers to two things or state, both caused by too much information.
The first instance of information overload is when too much information makes it difficult to reach a decision.
The second instance of information overload is when too much information makes it difficult to be informed about a topic.
And this brings me to this interesting post written by String Foo’s RSS Feeds: How Many Updates a Day is Too Many?
This assumption is based upon the belief that a feed shouldn’t be a fire hose of information, but rather the delightful stream of mountain spring water that is the distilled information you care about. (Forgive me. I just can’t help myself sometimes.)[Source]
I like this assumption and it is good thought to follow when planning; placing the settings; and mashing an RSS feed for one’s site or blog.
