AOL IM and RSS
AOL said it would launch a new publishing tool last Friday to link a user’s blogging activities with their instant messaging. The idea is that their buddy list would be pinged when the user posts a new blog entry. It would be in essence turning AIM into a massive RSS engine… The tool is part of AOL’s offensive strategy to combat increasing competitive threats from new social networks, such as the popular MySpace.com. The new tool will be an “alpha” or experimental product, and will be based on open standards so that all developers can use it to create IM-blog modules. Wow, this is nice! Like blogging4business writes: upgrading AIM with an RSS-style ping service has real potential! Add to that the open API and we may have a winner;) The problem is I haven’t read anything about it since last week, anybody got some news?
