Arguments for the desktop Feed Reader
Ever since NewsGator made its non-enterprise applications free. There has been an increase in the posts arguing or more accurately stating the advantages of having a desktop feed reader.
Enterprise RSS gives a good argument for getting a desk top feed reader in the post Why Use a Desktop Feed Reader.
The most effective argument for the desk top feed reader, at least for me is this:
Many desktop readers are full-fledged web browsers, complete with access to your favorites, tabbed browsing, etc. In fact, FeedDemon is my web browser - I rarely use an external browser anymore. If you haven’t used a browser that’s also a powerful RSS reader, you’re missing out.[Source]
And the Enterprise RSS blog points out to a post, Why Use a Desktop RSS Reader? , by Nick Bradbury. And the article uses basically the same arguments. The difference though is near the end Bradbury states:
I think the so-called battle between web and desktop apps is overblown. It’s a hybrid world, not an either-or situation.[Source]
I would agree to this and personally I still prefer an on-line Feed reader because of two things:
1) One can access an on-line feed reader it with ease and anywhere where there is an Internet connectio
2) Majority of the stuff on the RSS feeds can be considered ephemeral or ephemera or transitory in nature and in use.
What are your thoughts on this?
