A Feed Is Born

Feedage the RSS directory

by Juned on February 21st, 2008

Normally, I would add a feed after I visit a website or a blog. And then only after initially reading its content. This is sort of slow but not without its benefits - one being able to make sure that the blog or website’s feed is suitable and can be added to one’s rss feed collection.

There are of course other ways of searching and adding feeds. One of them is via an RSS directory like Feedage.

Feedage is categorized and searchable directory that one can use to search and add feeds to your feed collection. One has to register in Feedage in order to avail of its services an features these include but are not limited to:

1) Create a collection of RSS feeds to share and can also be exported as a n OPML file.

2) Monitor how many people view and subscribe to one’s feeds,

3) Now in order to search for more feeds to add to your collection. Feedback explains how this is done in three steps:

1. Using the search or categories find the feeds that interest you. You are returned a sorted list of feeds that match your criteria. You can sort based on popularity, date added or alphabetically.

2. To preview the feed and subscribe, click on the feed title. Associated with each feed are subscription buttons (Add to My Yahoo! ,Add to Google, Add to My AOL, etc.)

3. You can subscribe to the feed by simply clicking the subscription button. If you don’t use one of the listed readers you can also copy and past the feed URL into different aggrogators.

4) One interesting feature of Feedage is the Feed Inspector a feed grading system that assess the quality of one’s feed and assigns a rank that can be displayed on one’s blog or website. Here is a brief description on the grading system.

My thoughts on Feedage could be summarized in two trains of thoughts. (i) I think it is useful if you want to build your feed collection fast. In terms of quality I am not quite sure if it can provide quality feeds. You need quality blogs and websites for that. Hence, the advantage of blog hopping then add way of building a collection.(ii) The feed grading system is interesting and will require a more thorough look.
