A Feed Is Born

I really just read Wai Wai for the titles

by Juned on October 11th, 2007

I like reading Wai Wai. Web feeds are not only for the serious and no frill users but also for those of us who enjoy the fine things in life or in certain situations the weird and the zany. You can suscribe to photos, twits, and even to podcasts.Although, I must confess I have been enjoying this particular feed over the years. And it is zany ephemeral information that only the web delivers. And the good thing about it is that these are news articles.

So … What is Wai Wai?

It is news transcript of Japanese tabloids published by the Mainichi Daily News. Wai Wai is part of the Cultural Section of MDN’s website and it is grouped together with other zany sections called the World Wide Weird and The Face.

Mainichi describes and legally distance itself from Wai Wai with this statement.

WaiWai stories are transcriptions of articles that originally appeared in Japanese language publications. The Mainichi Daily News cannot be held responsible for the contents of the original articles, nor does it guarantee their accuracy. Views expressed in the WaiWai column are not necessarily those held by the Mainichi Daily News or the Mainichi Newspapers Co. WaiWai © Mainichi Newspapers Co. 1989-2007.[source]

So why does Mainichi distance itself from Wai Wai? I believe it is the same reason why I like it, because somehere between the translation from Japanese to English and the migration from tabloid to on-line this happens:

1. Duped lonely hearts claim their pink cherries never blossom

2. No butts about it, saggy buttocks indicate poor health

3. Jeepers creepers, your love hotel might be crawling with peepers

4. Ladies, the J-guys have spoken: One night stands are out, facials are in

5. Italy’s kimono-draped virgin church prays for an immaculate concept

6. Can’t afford to get a divorce? Lend an ear to bank’s ‘Re Life Plan’

7. Humie Hosokawa’s triple trouble: single, unemployed, and possibly preggers

8. Athletic Waseda co-ed arouses school spirit (and classmates’ libidos) in sensual DVD

And something from the Word Wide Weird section:

Top-ranked chicken eater loses his crown to cooking student in wing-eating contest

Here is the Wai Wai feed. And I really only read it for the titles despite what my friends and therapist tell you. Truly only the titles.

Here is one for last:

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, an alien with a schoolgirl slipper fetish

I really only read the titles. Truly and honestly I just do.
