Miscellany and digital disorder

by Juned on June 23rd, 2007

I am still waiting for David Weinberger’s latest book, Everything is miscellaneous: the power of the new digital disorder, to hit the book stores in my part of planet Earth. To order the book on-line would have been the logical choice. However, there has been an alarming increase in the number of delayed parcels at the local post office that it has given an important pause of caution - to whether or not to order on-line. The fire that burned down a warehouse of the postal company only deepened the suspicions that might have prompted many to echo a phrase from Shakespeare’s Hamlet about the state of rotteness. Nevertheless. Weinberger’s book, which deals with information or what he terms as the “digital disorder”, seems to be a promising read based on the reviews and Weinberger’s own presentation.

The reactions to Weinberger’s book was both good and bad - critical. One in particular is an interesting read because it reviewed the book point per point. Interesting book reviews are those that will not take the views and opinions of the book as truths but will question and test them. And of course the review gives the reader an insight and information on the book and hopefully enough information whether to buy a book or not. Also it pays to read more than one review.

Here is the review and link to Weinberger’s latest book by Prof Tom Wilson.

Wilson, T.D. (2007). Review of: Weinberger, David. Everything is miscellaneous: the power of the new digital disorder. New York, NY: Henry Holt and Company, 2007. Information Research, 12(4), review no. R269 [Available at: http://informationr.net/ir/reviews/revs269.html]

Another good insight as to what is in store for you if you read the book is this: Google Tech Talks Presentation about Everything is Miscellaneous, May 10, 2007. The presentation is informative and witty. You might find yourself agreeing or disagreeing with Weinberger but you will not be bored.
