It is nearly the end of January. Will the first month of the year be the sign of waht will come for the rest of year. If one were to pick three words or phrases that would describe the month of January 2008 in terms of RSS, web feeds and information overload it would be this:
Fund and Investors
Diversification and specializing
Bundling and Product enhancement
Culling and Saving
Ubiquity
Fund and Investors
During the first part of January two or three things seem to stand in terms of RSS and web feeds. The most prominent of these are the amount of investment that is being placed in RSS and we feeds, NewsGator and AideRSS have been fortunate enough to get additional funding.
Diversification and specializing
One should also note that there is continuing trend to diversificartion in terms of web feeds. It is jut not a matter of setting up a feed anymore. In certain cases it might be how to handle the information overload and in other cases managing the rss feed for corporations. It is more and more becoming a form of service industry.
Bundling and Product enhancement
Another thing to note is that RSS and web feeds are now being used to jazz up several gadgets. Number one or top most is the development of “Smart” television sets. Another would be the RSS-enabled digital picture frame.
Culling and Saving
We produce to much information A lot of it we need and also a lot we do not need. There will be need for a service that will streamline the amount of data and preserve it.
Road to Ubiquity: Can you find RSS in the Oxford or meedictionary?
Although RSS is popular on the Internet. It still has to make its presence felt off-line. There is still no full entry of RSS on the Oxford nor the Webster dictionary has RSS on its pages. Hopefully, with coming of “smart” televisions and other RSS-enabled gadgets, RSS and Web feeds will be more common.
