A Feed Is Born

Tivo offers the web on TV

by Juned on January 7th, 2008

Tivo by using RSS feeds have expanded their content to include downloadable online video. Once the subscriber has selected a particular feed. The videocasts are automatically downloaded and can be viewed anytime. I got this bit of news from Worldscreen.com here.

This service requires a new application:

The expanded functionality requires TiVo Desktop Plus 2.6, an update to the Windows application that also converts recorded TV shows for viewing on portable devices like the iPod. The application is available to new users for $24.95, and as a free update to owners of earlier versions.[Source]

Subscribers to Tivo can now download and view any online video:

  • Network Newscasts
  • Content from major networks such as Comedy Central and Discovery
  • Niche Content and hobby videos like DiggNation and Ask ANinja
  • Furthermore, Tivo will provide the subscribers a list select web-video sources via an on-screen guide and select “Season Pass” recordings. The service also allows the subscribers to have a Season Pass recording of the subscriber personal video - ie home movies and online video.

Tivo also claims that: the quality of high-resolution web videos will be preserved when delivered to TiVo Series3 or TiVo HD DVRs[Source].

Another brick for the RSS road? Is this an the home RSS reader? Or the living room aggregator?
