A Feed Is Born

Web feeds: National Geographic

by Juned on August 3rd, 2007

National Geographic’s (NG) web feed is one of those that you get bundled into a set of feeds made available once you set-up a webfeed reader. Its one of those webfeeds one likes to receive it is news and articles that interests us.

Name of the Webfeed: National Geographic News

What: What is the feed all about?

This web feed sends out summary of news from National Geographic. It is a mixture of news from NG and covers a wide range of topics.

Format: In what form is the feed delivered: Full text or summary leading back to original website?

No full text. Mostly summaries. There is however another webfeed within NG that offers a different type of RSS Service.

Notes: Notes on the Webfeed

National Geographic does offer a lot of other webfeeds. One has just has to look for theme. NG has a set of podcasts that one can subscribed to here. Podcasts include audio and video like: (i) Traveler Magazine’s Walks of a Lifetime by Rudy Maxa; (ii)National Geographic World Talk; (iii)Wild Chronicles (Video); (iv) The Best of National Geographic Magazine and others.

Aside from that irritating globe that appears every time you enter the website. NG seems to be not utilizing fully its webfeeds. There are videocasts and podcasts available. It takes sometime to get to them. What would be fine if they were easily accessible or even embedded in the webfeed. I am still a fan of full text web and it is a bit tiresome to from the rss feed to GN’s website. Although once discovering the podcast and subscribing to any one of them you do not need to go back to the website. I like their podcasts.
