Will RSS replace Email?
This is an interesting question with the advantages RSS brings - like syndication of content and being relatively spam free - will it ever replace email? Will it be so successful that it will banish online and desktop based email readers? Yes and no.
YES
RSS feeds properly use can actually do some of the emails we receive and do. (i) Emails that are routinely sent out to a large number of people can actually be sent out as an RSS feed. Such emails like updates, alerts, memos and even minutes of a meeting can be sent out as RSS feed. (ii) Material like pictures, video, music, sound and software can be sent directly via RSS feeds. The RSS feed would likely replace the mailing list. Maybe.
And this is practical because it cuts down several information debris from constant and repetitive sending of emails of this nature,
NO
RSS will however not replace the conversation that is inherent in email communications. Instant Messaging will and has been doing that to a very successful degree. However, as the name applies only to short conversations. Comprehensive communication thoough is only done electronically via email.
At least this seems so from my point of view. What do you think?
